Apparently, OnePlus wants to refresh its branding a little, because reports from China say that the company will already be launching a new logo on March 18. Thanks to the application for trademark protection, there is even a nice picture of it – and it is much less red.

According to a GizChina report, the new OnePlus logo will be announced on March 18 via Weibo. Revising a logo from time to time is part of the normal development of a company, be it just to look modern like the recent redesign of the BMW logo or simply to strengthen your own brand identity, as was the case with the revised Lufthansa corporate identity .

The current OnePlus logo was introduced when it was founded in 2013, but due to the very geometric design and the sans serif font, it still looks modern enough. Why exactly OnePlus decided to develop a new logo is not entirely clear – hopefully the company will give an insight into the reasoning and the motivation behind the changes during the presentation.

In direct comparison, the logo is above all much less red, while the font has been completely replaced. The new typography uses the same line width throughout, whereas the “One” used to be more powerful than the “Plus”. The square and the plus symbol have also been adapted to this line width in order to achieve a picture that is as harmonious as possible.

Overall, the new logo looks so much more mature, the color scheme typical of OnePlus could certainly return in the version ultimately used. It remains to be seen whether the group will also revise its rest of the design accordingly, for example to give its smartphones completely new packaging.

The new logo is on the left, the old one on the right for comparison.
