The official press photo just leaked a few minutes ago for the Xperia 5 II from Sony, which will presumably be launched around the IFA in September, looks like a smaller brother of the Xperia 1 II at first glance, but a closer comparison shows a few changes.

Today Sony surprisingly launched the Xperia 8 Lite in Japan, just as unexpected is the first official press photo of the Sony Xperia 5 II, which we received from the US leaker Evan Blass. The high-resolution render image gives us a preview of a dark blue color option for the flagship, which is probably about 6.1 inches again, but which has been slimmed down in detail compared to the larger Xperia 1 II (on Amazon from 1,190 euros).
Even if we don’t have any specifications yet, the resolution of the OLED display is likely to have been reduced as in the previous year and we can also see some differences in the direct comparison of the two brothers below. First there is the design of the chassis. At first glance, the Xperia 5 II and Xperia 1 II look very similar, both appear in the typical 21: 9 format and with a thin border above the display, where the selfie cam is also hidden.
On closer inspection, however, the edges of the new Xperia 5 II appear much more rounded and not as flat as the Xperia 1 II. Interestingly, the Xperia 5 II seems to have one more button on the right side, as well as a power button with a fingerprint sensor and a volume rocker two more dedicated buttons can be seen, possibly each for direct photo and video recording or other, hopefully configurable functions.
We see a limitation in the camera module. Even in the smaller Sony flagship, this is based on a triple cam with ZEISS lenses and T * coating, but the 3D TOF sensor between the bottom and middle cameras is missing. We don’t yet know what compromises Sony has made with the main camera, ultra-wide angle and telephoto shooter. We suspect that Sony will officially launch the Xperia 5 II at the IFA in early September.
