Nobody expected that: Huawei will do it this year and launch three P40 models. The PE version, now leaked in high-resolution render images, should be refined as a premium edition with ceramic and, above all, go a step further with the cameras: Penta-Cam plus optical 10x zoom with focal lengths up to 240 mm equivalent.

This will be a three-way battle with Samsung. Huawei has apparently not let it go and, possibly on March 26, will release three P40 models like the Galaxy S20 trio of the South Koreans – in addition to the basic model P40 with triple cam and 3x zoom, which yesterday leaked pro model with quad cam and 5x zoom and also apparently also the new P40 Pro PE flagship, which of course explicitly gets into the ring with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

As the extremely reliable Leaker Evan Blass announced a few hours ago in the company of very high-resolution official render images, this PE edition is apparently based on ceramics, two color variants – black and white – are already safe. At the front, little seems to have changed compared to the P40 Pro – at the top left is the pill-shaped dual selfie cam in the quad-curved AMOLED display of currently unknown size.

The innovations are all happening on the back, where you can count four cameras and a 3D TOF sensor, in total a Penta-Cam with a much larger, rectangular periscope camera at the bottom left. The easy-to-read lettering on the Leica-Cam reveals that the rumor mill should be right: a focal length range of 18 to 240 mm equivalent confirms the optical 10x zoom, ultimately Huawei will probably also be able to realize a hybrid 100x zoom.

This new periscope optic was also predicted by the “Apple Leaker” Ming-Chi Kuo as a hybrid prism and mirror construction and apparently works with a fixed aperture of F / 4.0. Huawei probably also uses a 52 megapixel main camera with rumored 16-in-1 technology for even better low-light shots, as well as a 40 megapixel cine lens with ultra-wide-angle optics. In addition to the 3D TOF sensor, a macro lens or a second zoom lens for an intermediate zoom range should also be integrated – but this has not yet been confirmed.
