The Nubia Red Magic 5S 144 Hz gaming phone is now available
Nubia today started pre-orders for its latest gaming flagship, which remains relatively cheap despite the 144 Hz display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.
The Nubia Red Magic 5S was officially presented around a month ago. Even then it was clear that the smartphone would also come to Europe, the exact date for the start of sales and the prices have now finally been confirmed. The gaming smartphone can now be pre-ordered via the manufacturer’s website; delivery will start on September 2nd.
The model with 8 GB LPDDR5 memory and 128 GB UFS 3.1 flash memory costs 579 euros, for 12 GB or 256 GB 649 euros are due. The colors are somewhat restricted: the cheaper model is only available in “Sonic Silver“, while the more expensive version is only available in the brightly colored “Pulse” color scheme.
The Nubia Red Magic 5S offers features that could compete with some flagship models: The smartphone has a 6.65-inch, 144 Hz, 1080p + AMOLED display with a touch sampling rate of 240 Hz and touch-sensitive shoulder buttons with a sampling rate of 320 Hz. To get the maximum out of this fast screen, Nubia relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with “GPU Boost” and a cooling system known as “Trinity Cooling“, which also includes a small fan up to 15,000 rpm.
The 8 megapixel selfie camera has been integrated into the slightly thicker edge at the upper end of the display, so that no notch or punch hole interferes with gaming. On the back there is a 64 MP f / 1.8 main camera, an 8 MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 2 MP macro camera. The 4,500 mAh battery is charged with USB-C with up to 55 watts.
