First a hot tip, now an official leak including all pictures and important technical data. A few hours before the launch of the new Sony phones under the unusual names Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II, we have official pictures, marketing material and practically all specifications. For the first time on a Sony phone: The well-known real-time eye autofocus of professional Sony cameras.

Just a few minutes ago, the first indications of the unusual marketing names of the new Sony Xperia phones appeared, now the Chose is a reality. Before the launch tomorrow, Max Weinbach provided us with official marketing material for Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II, and it has it all. Let’s take a look at the new flagship Xperia 1 II or Xperia 1 Mark II:

Sony Xperia 1 II
Also in 2020 we are dealing with a 6.5 inch flagship in 21: 9 format, whose HDR OLED display has a 4K resolution and offers “motion blur reduction” – which Sony apparently does not call 90 Hz equivalence are real 90 Hz, otherwise it would not have been formulated in this way: Probably, as before, a 60 Hz display. Based on the fast Snapdragon 865 SoC with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, a 5G modem is integrated but only with Sub-6 support, the faster but still rare mmWave networks cannot be used with it.

The camera is very exciting, since Sony apparently takes over the real-time eye autofocus of its professional mirrorless cameras of the newer Alpha 6xxx and A7 series, plus ZEISS lenses and 20 fps fast autofocus-tracked bursts. The Quad-Cam offers a 3D TOF sensor and three fixed focus lenses with 16 mm, 24 mm and 70 mm focal length equivalent, the latter therefore an optical4 3x zoom with OIS. All three sensors each offer 12 mp sensors, which makes 8K recording on the Sony phones impossible. Max Weinbach also mentions that the 1 / 1.7-inch 12 MP main sensor should be the same as in the Galaxy S20: the IMX555.

With a lean 8 MP resolution, the front camera remains a bit too conservative compared to the competition. The return of the 3.5 mm headphone jack with hi-res audio support and dual front speaker is very unusual but already predicted – a dream for high-end audio fans, but Sony is once again sticking to the classic design with thin ones but clearly recognizable edges above and below the display. The black and purple planned Xperia 1 Mark II offers a 4,000 mAh battery and will again be waterproof and dustproof according to the IP68 standard.

Sony Xperia 10 II
The successor to the midrange Xperia 10 with the designation Mark II also offers targeted improvements and appears in the refreshed but still classic 21: 9 design. Here we get a 6 inch OLED display with Full HD + resolution based on the Snapdragon 665 with a measly 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. 5G reception is not integrated here, the battery holds 3,600 mAh. Also here on board: A 3.5 mm jack with Hi-Res audio DAC, the triple cam is clearly slimmed down in terms of both optics and sensors: there is neither the complex real-time eye autofocus of the Sony cameras still 3x zoom but at least ultra wide-angle 16 mm cam with 8 MP sensor, 12 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel 2x zoom camera. No information is yet available on prices and availability, we should be able to find out tomorrow as part of the livestream.
