The in-house language assistant Cortana is to receive many new productivity features on Windows 10 after the next update, while Cortana will be deleted without replacement in the relatively popular Android launcher from Microsoft.
In a blog entry, Microsoft describes the new features that Cortana will receive in the next Windows 10 update. The digital assistant can then provide information about calendar entries, create entries in to-do lists or create reminders, all of this via a chat-based user interface, with which you can interact not only by voice, but also by entering text using the keyboard.
In a footnote, however, Microsoft writes that Cortana will be turned off on its in-house Android launcher at the end of April. There is no explanation or reason for this, so we can only speculate that the voice assistant on Android could not achieve any noteworthy user numbers and that Microsoft is (for the time being) defeated in this area and leaves the field to Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant.
