Oppo thinks of a kind of upside down flip phone a la Galaxy Z Flip with an external display
A flip phone with a modern, flexible interior display is already available from Samsung and Motorola. At Oppo, however, they are obviously thinking of adapting the concept and using a flexible external display similar to Huawei on the Mate X. This has advantages but of course also disadvantages.

A flip phone with a flexible external display and a new type of hinge: the Oppo design patent for a potential foldable.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo showed a fold-able in the style of a Mate X from Huawei years ago, but has so far decided against a launch – they are leaving Huawei and Samsung and, more recently, Motorola to iron out children’s diseases.

A folding cell phone from Oppo may soon come onto the market again and it could look like the pictures below and above, which were created on the basis of a design patent awarded to Oppo by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) has been.

Oppo has a design patent for a clam-shell phone with a flexible external display.

Novel hinge
The Oppo folding mobile phone does not need a selfie cam; the triple cam on the back can be conveniently used for self-portraits when folded. Using sensors, the clam shell phone can recognize the angle at which it is opened in order to adapt its software accordingly, magnets keep the beautifully border-less-looking underside of the display securely closed when it is folded. Thanks to the cylindrical hinge, the flip phone does not seem to leave any gap between the sides when folded.
